My Craftyness, Born of Frugality

One thing you should know about me, I am crafty. If my husband (M.) leaves on a trip, I take the opportunity to paint, or rearrange furniture, or make something new out of what we have.

I do it when he’s gone partly because I’m bored, but mostly because I have an inner art-nerd that wants to get out. Oh, and also I’m cheap. I hate the idea of paying $135 for a wall decal. They seem nice, but $135? Really? My motto is "I can totally make that." So out of boredom, cheapness, and artyness, my living room was born:
This is my living room wall. I love it. I dreamed about doing it forever, but because we rent, I was reluctant. Then M. left on a trip. It was really his own fault for leaving me with nothing but papers to grade and a hardware store within driving distance.

This painting is kinda lame, but its creation is pure me. I have always wanted a large, almost oversized canvas. I like big colossal art, but it is super expensive, and as already established, I am cheap. So I was at Ikea (who will make several appearances in this blog, for sure) and I saw a large print on sale that was, well, cheeseball. It was like this gauzy white brush stroke figure that looked kind of mummy like on a dark blue background. $35. So I bought it with the intention of tricking it out. M. had just received a package of Krink drip markers. He was away on yet another trip, so I put the silver one to use. I used almost half of it! Do I watch too much HGTV? I think so.
