Another book series

55. Dead Until Dark

I found out about HBO's new series, True Blood and got excited (finally) about the fall TV season. You can see the trailer here. It's got vampires and southern mysteries and Anna Paquin, whom I love. Anyway, when I watched the extended trailer on my HBO On Demand, I found out that the story is based on a series of vampire novels by Charlaine Harris. M. looked at me like "uh-oh" and off I went to Barnes and Noble. I just finished the last book in the series and I love it! Trashy, fun, and the heroine is strong and likeable. It's part horror, drama, romance, and it makes fun of those genres at the same time. At one point, one of the vampire characters watches the first season of Buffy and thinks it's hysterical. At another point, well, Elvis Presley turns up as a vampire. He's the real Elvis, but something didn't go right in the cross over from human to vampire, and he's a kind of dumb and silly. I am almost sad that all eight books will probably not come to life, given HBO's treatment of new programs. I hope they stick to the story for the most part. It's vampires-r-us out there in pop culture these days. I'm liking it a lot.

Also, Long Beach's own Alex's Bar was used for the filming of all of the vampire bar scenes in the show. The vampire bar in Shreveport called "Fangtasia." I know!

It's been hot and just a little more uncomfortable than it needs to be, but today it is actually pretty cloudy. I hope everyone with friends or family out in the Gulf Coast are doing OK.
